Do you know what you’re burning?
Which is the best candle wax?
Stearin, paraffin, palm, soy, beeswax…
How aware is the average candle buyer of the origin of these 5 popular wax bases?
Ummmm…
Because they could come from here:
Cow carcasses, unregulated by-product from the oil industry, deforestation, genetically-modified soybeans, animal exploitation.
Or they could come from here:
Sustainably-farmed vegetable stearin, food-grade paraffin, RSPO-certified palm, non-GMO soy, by-product of the honey industry where the bees aren’t harmed.
Either way, you may never know.
It’s a jungle out there. Even in the world of waxes. And, one thing is for sure, buying the cheapest candles is not likely to give you the most responsibly sourced blend or the cleanest, most stable burn.
We decided all 5 regular options weren’t ideal for us, so we created our own instead.
The new base for our Next Generation candle wax is extracted from traceable, sustainably farmed, and non-GMO Swedish rapeseed oil. It is blended to burn as stably and slowly as our previous wax bases, just with less overall impact*.

Makes you think, doesn’t it?

*In a Life Cycle Assessment conducted by the independent Technical Research Institute of Sweden in 2016 when comparing rapeseed, palm and sunflower oils, Swedish rapeseed oil delivered the lowest impact in 7 of the 8 defined environmental impact categories.
