The pandemic has taught us all a lot of things. Not least, the environmental impact of the consumption habits we all once happily ignored.
For us, it wasn’t so much the occasional impulse purchases that we saw as having the greatest opportunity to reduce our footprint, it was more the things that get used daily and which demand continual availability; like soaps, moisturising creams, shampoo.
After all, almost all of us have likely got at least two sinks at home, a shower cubicle that always needs a steady supply of soap (and a good scrub), hair on our heads, or hands dried out by the constant alcohol gels.
Yet the disorganised manner by which these essentials tend to appear at home – from a supermarket run, a discount table, a flash promotion, ‘borrowed’ from a previous hotel visit – seems rarely done with the mindset of responsibility.
It all added up to the logic of offering a subscription option focused on personal care, but available across our entire collection.
Thus the ‘Essentials’ subscription box.
Here’s how it works…
Simply, you choose your regular essentials, you choose how often you need to receive them. Then, after the first box arrives, you have the freedom to change, add or remove items before every future delivery, change delivery frequency, or even cancel. At any time. Without penalty.
For those with a concern for their actions, you get the peace of mind that one part of the house’s daily needs is now being handled more responsibly. By a Certified B Corporation that actively reduces its footprint and declares its entire local, natural, organic, ethical and responsible practises.
For those with an eye for a deal, you get up to 20% off plus free shipping, and a free gift in each box. Which, basically makes the Essentials Box the cheapest way you will ever find to stock Skandinavisk on a regular basis.
What about the cynical environmental cost of us shipping these small boxes to my home, I hear you cry?!
Glad you asked.
First, these boxes are shipping direct from our warehouse in Denmark, which itself has received them direct from our production locations in the EU. In fact, in the case of all our personal care, this means everything has only been inside Denmark before it’s ordered by you. Which also means no additional shipment emissions to foreign retailers, and no need for you to drive to the store either.
Second, we only offer road transport in Europe, where freight is optimised and the environmental cost of travel is the lowest. In comparison, next-day deliveries typically demand more emission-heavy air transport and are also rarely optimised. In other words, half-empty shipments being flown to impatient customers. The cost of immediacy is invisible, but high.
OK, got it.
But what’s in it for us?
It’s why we think it’s a Win-Win-Win.
For you, for us, for our shared planet.
Right… now we’ve explained our logic, you need to decide if it matches yours.
*Told you there was no catch
